  • I am really digging the new folding phones. I have the z fold 3 and am loving it. I love being able to unfold it and immediately have a bigger screen for media consumption or just being on my browser. I am open to New foldable designs, and love seeing the competition. I hope we start to see more designs.

  • Interesting. I recently got a Fold 3 after it went on sale (credit card point redemption). I had been quite happy with the Fold 2 and decided that the pen function (even though I was a Note fan since v2) and the waterproofing wasn't worth the upgrade. The discount was enough to change my mind. It's a perceptibly nicer phone, the screens feel smoother etc but otherwise it's pretty much the same. Not having the S pen integrated seriously reduces the convenience, particularly when using the Spigen case which holds the pen super tight and you have a pluck it out with signficant force.

  • Team Little Fold for sure. Use it folded for abbreviated interactions (sending a text, checking a quick email, answering a call) and unfolded or semi-folded for extended interaction (sending an email, taking a video call, playing a game). Personally, I want the phone as small as possible for those abbreviated interactions (i.e. optimized for one handed use and pocket-ability), but big enough unfolded so the more sophisticated interactions don't suffer from lack of screen size. This device seems like a really great balance. Hope one like this hits the US markets soon. Thanks for the video.

    • I never really thought much about the little fold before. But it's a good point. Maybe it would work well. I'd really have to try one out for a little while to see how well the folded over form handled things like texting. I guess I'm wondering if the keyboard is ok to use when folded. Maybe it is fine.

  • Unpopular opinion, as a Z Fold 3 owner i LOVE its more thin form when folded. It feels way better to use one-handed which is what the closed version really ough to be used for, and it's much more ergonomic and comfortable to hold when making phone calls for instance. If you want a regular phone that then folds you might as well just get a regular phone. This design while it may suit some I see as a jack of all master of none design whereas the z fold series fully embraces the dual use model and soecialized each screen and their size for it.

    Jon MJon Mأشهر قبل
    • I can see the z fold three being better suited to more people than the regular fold. However I an also see me taking the oppo fold over it if i was ever to use a fold. However I am not going to baby my phone, and I cannot use oled screens. So my only options are midrange phones. EDIT: I meant the samsung z flip not the z fold.

  • I actually like the size of my Z Fold 3 for the simple fact it does promote productivity and multitasking with more easy. I think Samsung is going to keep their form factor...it seems like they feel it directly effects their Flex Mode functionality as well..whether true or not. • I LOVE my Z Fold2, and I never want to go back to a non-folding phone. I almost exclusively open it up every time I interact with it, unless it's a phone call. I love the big screen. However, I'm really liking the shorter height size that Oppo is doing with theirs. I'm def looking forward to what Samsung does with the Z Fold4, even though it's unlikely that they would shorten the height on it. Can't wait to see how much the folding phones improve over the years.

    Kevin CibelloKevin Cibelloأشهر قبل
  • The smaller size does seem like it would be easier to use overall. I just wouldn't use a folding phone. I feel like I'd never use a tablet folder open enough to justify the expense. The clamshells are cute and all, but when I need to use my phone, I don't need the extra hassle of unfolding it. I appreciate the technology, but i don't see it being that useful for me until and unless we get to the "global" design used in the show "Earth: Final Conflict." Even then, it wasn't so much a foldable phone as one that could deploy and contract. Very cool tech, and we're closer to it than I'd have thought we'd get when I first saw it, but we're not there yet.

  • After watching/reading about this phone, I think there are two main points that everyone is talking about: the crease and the form factor. 1. Crease: Oppo is using Samsung's foldable display. Oppo claimed they developed a new way to remove the crease, and it turns out Oppo chose to fold via "Waterdrop" shape method. That is, instead of folding the display like ">", Oppo folds like "=O", creating a round shape at the end of the fold instead of folding in half. This method was actually implemented on Motorola's new Razr 3 years ago, so it is not new, and this method has a problem of making a "W" shaped crease and eventually making the display look like a wave. This was the reason why Samsung decided to go with ">" fold at the time. We don't know if Samsung's new foldable display has been upgraded, or Oppo found a solution to the wavy crease. 2. Form factor: This is really personal preference. Oppo decided to choose normal wide display when folded and a square display when unfolded, while Samsung went with having ultra wide display when folded and a wide display when unfolded. Oppo's form factor looks great as it is smaller and seems to make sense, but it really starts to annoy you once you unfold and start using the square display as all video clips now days are wide/ultra wide. Oppo has tons of work to do in this front to make sure every app/videos work with their square display. Samsung, on the other hand, has no problem on this front, but user needs to get used to ultra wide front display. Samsung most likely thought many fold users would buy it to watch video in full screen mode, thus wide display support is important. Also, Samsung needs to make sure Fold and Flip do not cross each other.

  • I think most of the discussion about form-factor comes down to the screen-aspect ratio and what you would use it for. Samsung optimized this for the main inner screen and sacrificed a bit on the outside - oppo the other way around. Imo the square-ish screen could only be used well for multitasking and maybe browsing. Media consumption, gaming etc. Will always be better on the traditional wider screen... So why would you optimize for the non-main screen?

  • Another great review. My thought is that none of the folding phones we see today, including Oppo's, feel like the best use of a folding screen. They all feel gimmicky in some way and have that try to find a usage for a new technology feel. This reminds me of MP3 players before the iPod. There were so many variations of MP3 players in all kinds of shapes with different features. But it wasn't until Apple came out with iPod, it really killed the music CDs. Part of iPod's success was not just device itself, but the iTune service it is tightly connected to. But the fundamental of MP3 music was all there. Same with the folding screen phones. It is nice to have a big screen that fit into a pocket. I hope Apple is working hard on some new designs that can put folding screens in good use. The only phone came close to something I want to buy was the Motorola Razr fold phone. That makes some sense, but it is too expensive and under powered compared to standard slab phones.

Its so good that Samsung had to update the software on their actual tablets too. I remember a time when I actively avoided Samsung products because of the software and UI, now they're improving greatly and rapidly. If Samsung can emulate this design and keep the phone water resistant, it will nearly be a perfect foldable, imo.

The inner screen being slightly wide-screen looks awesome and would be cool for unformatted apps cause they will work better one way or the other. Neat phone, too bad they won’t be in America outside of you reviewers. The L shape with the screen propped on the other side having the video in the middle is a large enough oversight to pass though. Have they not seen those Samsung commercials?! Lol that’s like a huge feature for people who film themselves totally overlooked. 🤦‍♂️

  • I've had my z fold 3 since release. I love the aspect ratio on the outside, there is tips and gestures that are not gaudy (like pop ups, etc.) That make quick one handed use great. You can easily unlock, reply to your message and lock the phone, slide it back in your pocket one handed no problem, without fumbling the thing around in your hand. Use it long enough and normal phones look fat lol Please stop suggesting this ratio lol

  • Hey Marques, Given the new form factor of foldable phones, would you consider it a good move to push for developing book reading features similar to a kindle? In the smartwatch world, there is the "essential mode" from Ticwatch pro 3, that uses the dual display. I wonder if that second screen can also be foldable, hmmm....

  • Glad to see Samsung have Competition. I like my Fold 3 but that battery life is abysmal for power users. A simple fix would be to give us even more control over the refresh rate and battery saving features. I don't need 120 Hz on the cover screen and only time I want to see 120 hz on the main screen is while gaming.

  • This is a step in the right direction for foldables. As for the different screen refresh rates, I personally think a better option would have been to go with 90Hz on both screens. That seems like the best compromise.

  • Using the Z Fold 3 now, I kinda wished Samsung opted to remove the gap when the phone's folded. Other than that, this Oppo Folding phone seems promising, a nice way to turn up the competition in the Foldable phone scene. Hopefully Samsung picks up some notes. Though i'm really happy with it, just not that gap when folded. 🤣

  • Next natural evolution is a trifold phone. Instead of that outside screen, it would make more sense if the phone folded twice into 3 folds. That way you still get a "outside screen", but you also get a larger unfolded screen. Option 1: When completely folded you use only the outside screen as a regular phone. Option 2: You only use the two inside screens for a larger, square, screen, like today's foldables, great for reading and writing text. Option 3: You completely unfold all 3 screens to a large ultrawide screen perfect for watching movies. The aspect ratios would be 2:3 (6:9) for one screen; 4:3 (12:9) for two screens; and 2:1 (18:9) for all three screens.

  • Love it 😀 The Oppo Find N will be available in China starting on December 23. Pricing is incredibly attractive at the equivalent of RMB7,699($1,200/€1070) for the 8GB/256GB version and RMB8,999 ($1,410/€1240) for the 12GB/512GB units. The sad part is Oppo doesn't plan on launching the Find N in overseas markets.
